important to systematically analyze the benefits and thus the value of the planned product for the customer.<\/p><p>For this purpose the Swiss business theorist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexander_Osterwalder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexander Osterwalder<\/a>\u00a0has developed an interesting method, which has become popular under class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>With this tool, product ideas can be analyzed, questioned and improved in a creative way &#8211; in order to fundamentally ensure that the customer really wants such a product.<\/p><h2>The Value Proposition Canvas<\/h2><p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">If you don\u2019t know the Value Proposition Canvas (VPC) yet, it\u2019s best to let Osterwalder himself explain it in an entertaining way \u2013 either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.de\/Value-Proposition-Design-Customers-Strategyzer\/dp\/1118968050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in his book<\/a> or in the video (the impatient among you can jump to<\/span><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pwRL4GiA8Ek?t=616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10:16<\/a> <span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">).<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><b>In short<\/b>, the VPC uses a scheme (\u201ccanvas\u201d) to compare two perspectives (see graphic below):<\/p><ul><li><p>the customer profile and<\/p><\/li><li><p>the value promise of the manufacturer (&#8220;value map&#8221;).<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"translation-block\">The analysis begins <em>customer-oriented<\/em> with the user\u2019s field of activity. You take a look at the tasks your target group has to cope with \u2013 and the hurdles (\u201cPains\u201d) and amenities (\u201cGains\u201d). The trick is to completely hide the advantages of your product. Only once it is clear what the customer really wants, does the process continue. Then the customer perspective is contrasted with the value proposition of the manufacturer. The product features are listed and the functionalities with which the customer\u2019s difficulties can be removed (\u201cPain Relievers\u201d) or which provide a sense of achievement (\u201cGain Creators\u201d). However, there are also important aspects to be considered: smart products often come with innovative <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">smart services<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">, whereby the latter often lead to a significant increase in value. The use of smart products results in <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">usage data<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> (e.g. via sensors), <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">contextual data<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> and <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">status data<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> (of the device) that represent a value for the manufacturer. Via the <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">data analysis in the cloud<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">, he can in turn offer the consumer optimizations and automations based on the data as a \u201cquid pro quo\u201d, which represent functional added value. In science, this joint value creation is also known as <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">Value Co-Creation <\/strong><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">and is often seen as the basis for the success of smart products. An important prerequisite for the <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">Value Co-Creation<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> are of course not only the trust of the customer, but above all <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">data security<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> and data protection.<\/span>\n\nIn addition, smart products also create hurdles if the <em> user interface of the HMI<\/em> does not meet the user\u2019s expectations, or if the <em> platforms used<\/em> (web, smartphone app, etc.) are not suitable for the user.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-925f310 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no\" data-id=\"925f310\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-15bb56c\" data-id=\"15bb56c\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e01cd9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e01cd9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container translation-block\"><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">So for smart products, the classic <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">Value Proposition Canvas<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">in the last step with a &gt;\/span&gt;<span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">Value Transport<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">intermediary layer. In this layer one would extend the potential an<\/span><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> <\/span><em style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">Value Co-Creation<\/em><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: unset; font-size: unset;\">analysis. Finally, one would also check whether the user interface and platforms used are suitable to enable the customer to enjoy the promised
